Reducing stress in cats when visiting the vet

Meet “Mia” one of our lovely patients who recently visited Uni Vets Camden.

Taking your cat for veterinary checks is an essential part of maintaining their health and wellbeing. The different smells, noises and other animals out and about in a veterinary hospital can be a stressful experience for cats and owners. Cats are susceptible to their environment and have a well developed “fight or flight response”, meaning they respond to feelings of insecurity by showing signs of fear or aggression.

Some strategies to help reduce stress include getting your cat used to the carrier at home, using pheromone sprays 30 minutes before leaving the house and placing favourite blankets or toys into the carrier. Once arriving at the clinic, ensure to keep the carrier off the ground and cover the cage with a towel.

If your cat is prone to becoming highly stressed when coming to the vet despite these methods, please don't hesitate to contact Uni Vets Camden on 4655 0777. We can then tailor a plan to ensure your fur-friend is as calm and relaxed as possible for their next visit.
